It's out of sheer necessity, Jenny. I'll go crazy even being ahead of the game and even worse if I didn't plan ahead. It's both a gift and a curse. :)

Andrea, you are definitely the most organized person I know. To be this far in the process a full 6 weeks before moving is phenomenal. I seriously need some of your organizational abilities :)

You will miss Singapore. As much as I hated being there for so many reasons, as much as I ached for 'home' and family, as much as I dreamed of never having to make those long trips back and forth and as happy as I was when I found out we were finally leaving... I never thought I would look back and wish... You will miss that place... but no matter what, you will cherish the memories you made there and in your travels abroad. We are richer because of the people we met, the experiences we had and the way our world was broadened - because of Singapore. ((hugs))

Hey, thanks so much for sharing this experience. I’m Singaporean and recently started a gluten-free diet owing to allergies. As you know, it’s not easy! The ‘magic word’ you refer to above, I think, is ‘education’. It’s surprising how little awareness there is here about gf – I was guilty of it myself and I realised it only from having lived in Australia for 2 years – partly this is because traditionally, Asians are not known to have a high prevalence of CD. And traditionally, we hardly eat wheat. However, diets have changed with the rise of Breadtalk, pastas, cereals and other wheat-based products. My suspicion is that a growing number of locals will start having allergic reactions to their non-traditional diet, though they may not know what it is! In any case, hopefully that leads to an increase in gf awareness eventually.

Also, if this country plans to get increasingly international, we’ll have to get on the gf-education bandwagon soon! I think awareness is growing, but it still has a way to go. I suspect if there were an association or a group that managed to get a hearing or a campaign from the National Health Board (like Canada has managed to do) then gf education would be getting somewhere, since the national health campaigns are always so efficient! I must say that certified CD cases make a much stronger case though – so keep up the good work and keep posting!
