Normally when we leave Texas to come back to Singapore it is a heartbreaking, tearful departure because normally we are leaving our two oldest kids behind. This time, though, we brought our son and a friend of his back with us and then our oldest daughter followed a few days later. Although leaving our family and friends was difficult, not having to really leave our kids made the leaving part so much easier.
For various reasons, we think this might be the last time the older two will get to visit us in Singapore so we had to make the most of it. Jakeb and Zac did a lot on their own during the day since Jakeb had his school friends here to catch up with while Tori hung out with Anna and I mostly. We did eat at all of our favorite places and manage to get in some really fun family time, even a weekend vacation to Indonesia, in the short time they were here. We made some great memories.
While they were here we… ate with family, ate with friends, got tattoo’s, played, cooked, vacationed, relaxed, fished, went on a father/daughter tapas date, had mother/daughter pedi’s, did touristy things (Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, saw Wicked), and overall, had a blast… until they had to go…
I don’t think that I will ever get over the fact that our kids WANT to come see us. That they are willing to pack their bags and fly that unbelievably long flight from Houston to Singapore and then back again just to hang out with their parents and sister. THAT is family! And I love mine!! (and yes, Zac, you are an honorary part of our family now)
Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift?
