It’s getting pretty dark in here.

In our current house there are over 100 lightbulbs. No joke! When we replace them, they last a few weeks and then they all start burning out one by one. Sometimes we go to Mustafa and buy a cart full of lightbulbs but not often because the ones they chose to use in this house are not cheap and it really takes a bite out of our budget. Then they don’t last so we pretty much have just gotten used to living in a dim lit atmosphere. Romantic? Not really. Frustrating? You betcha!

In May, when we knew we were definitely moving to another condo, we just quit replacing light bulbs. Why waste money on them? It’s getting pretty dark in here.

According to our tenancy agreement they all have to be working when we move out which happens soon! We’ll go around the house and change them the morning before the handover and I’m pretty sure one or two will still burn out within an hour. This house just has major electrical issues. Have I mentioned I’m ready to get out? Well, just in case I haven’t, I’M READY TO GET OUT!

Happy 4th!!

I know I’m still due a Cambodia trip post and I am working on that, promise! But today is a special day for me and cannot be passed by without recognition.

In the US, if you say Happy 4th, everyone will know you mean “Happy 4th of July!” or “Happy Independence Day”.  But honestly, we don’t really say Happy 4th to anyone or Happy Independence Day either. We normally just say “what kind of goodies are you bringing???”

It’s a day for family and friends to gather. To play outdoor games. To bbq. Eat hotdogs and all the junk food you can before puking. For years, my extended family has always gathered to watch the fireworks in the mall parking lot of our hometown. Kinda country, I know but it’s tradition. We even get there early to reserve a “our spot” and block it off with our cars and trucks, put quilts on the ground and pull out the lawn chairs and the kids play and get as filthy as possible. This year, the lack of rain has cancelled the fireworks there. So… in grand style, Singapore has given me and those in my hometown their 4th of July fireworks. Actually, this was Saturday, July 2nd and they say it was for the Singapore National Day Rehearsal but I’m pretty sure they did it for me, really, and for our friends, Donna and Jamie, who were here from Texas to share it with us. Thanks Singapore!! And thanks, Donna and Jamie, for coming and sharing this time with us. We miss our family so much all the time but especially during holidays so having friends here just makes it very special.

And my all time favorite part – The Grand Finale!
