We made it! We finished day one of our Stunz Home School 6th grade adventure today and we both survived. Still smiling too!!
We’ve spent countless hours praying, planning, preparing and today we dug in and got to it. Our school motto is “I can. I will.” This is from a student perspective as well as from a teacher perspective. We both need to remember that we can do this and we will.
Our school day started at 9:15am and we just finished up at 3:20pm. That’s a long day and I don’t plan on most days going that long but we had several interuptions and at one point 7 additional people in our house. Repair men came to fix some leaky issues and the aircon service techs were here as well for a few hours and our part time cleaning lady was here following them around cleaning up all their footprints and trails of dust. So with all of that and not really knowing what in the heck I was doing, I’d say we did pretty well.
Anna woke up ready to go and so did I. She was ready before I was and kept asking if we could start. We’ll see how long that lasts. She sat down at our school table (doubles as a vanity in Tori’s room when she’s here) and pulled out of her backpack (yes, she packed a backpack)
a beautifully decorated sign for our school room and an apple for the teacher. What a great kid! I wore my glasses today and put my hair up. I figured it would make me feel more like a real teacher. All I needed was my big Sonic drink (post from previous homeschool days on our old blog).
The subjects we tackled today were
Language (PACE, Poetry, Reading)
Math
Bible
Science (a fun project for now since we’re doing PACE)
PE
Tech Ed (computer stuff). She has created a blog (I’ll fill you in on my next post) and will be logging some daily thoughts, book summaries and project findings throughout the year. She’ll learn all sorts of stuff by doing a blog and it will make a great ”year book” at the end of the year. This is right up my alley so we’ll both enjoy it.
I’ll pull in American History in the next few days but we didn’t do History today. Our main History for this year is Eastern Hemisphere and is pretty intense so we can’t do that while we’re going through PACE. The American History we have is DVD driven so it won’t be too involved but she’ll still learn some good stuff.
PACE is a 12 week program and takes about an hour each day and we’ve been instructed to limit time spent on other subjects so we don’t overwork her brain and get her frustrated. We spent about 20 - 30 minutes on all other subjects. So with that, a snack and lunch break and all of the interuptions, there was our day.
My favorite part of the day, besides her saying “this is going to be fun”, was P.E. She chose for us to do Wii Just Dance from a list of activities I provided. I totally schooled her on the Cotton-Eyed Joe!! She got me back on Eye of the Tiger, though. I totally need to do that more. I think Tommy does too!!!
So at the end of the day, I’m not exhausted. I’m not drained. I’ve still got enough in me to write a blog post and look forward to cooking dinner. Anna has gone to the pool so she’s not exhausted either apparently.
I’m pretty pumped about tomorrow. I probably need to get a few pictures soon.
Now I’m going to go eat my apple.
What a great first day! I wanna be in your school.
YAY for awesome, hot, dancing homeschool moms!!!! I need me some glasses!
haha! Yes you do, Jenny!!
Come on over anytime, Jennifer! But don’t get your expectations too high. This is just one day out of many to come.
Andrea, I’m glad you take the time to do these. Next best to being there.
Love, Dad
