Tori is studying in China right now. She has almost completed her course and has had a really good experience. We are so grateful for technology and especially Skype. It is just so helpful for us to stay connected with our family and friends.
We talk to Tori almost every day on Skype. One of the questions I ask her everytime is “What did you eat today?” It’s usually something worth talking about. And she’s usually snacking on something when we talk so she shows me what she’s snacking on and it’s usually beyond the expiration date and resembles familiar but not quite. Like this:
These are actually a Chips Ahoy cookies with orange. Yes, orange. See…
She knows what she bought but I have no idea!
Then I ask her “Are you feeling okay?” The pollution is really bad there and it’s dirty so she’s pretty glad she took an assortment of medications. Some others have benefited from her foresight as well. The day I took this picture I didn’t have to ask. She asked me with desperation in her voice, “How many of these can I take at the same time?!?!?”
And I also ask her “What did you buy today?” On one of the first days she was there, she purchased a really cool tea cup and got this really cool free gift. She said she really just wanted the free gift. She calls it a “pee pee boy”. Apparently you put cold water in the little clay, anatomically correct boy figurine and heat up the tea water in your tea pot. When you think the water is hot enough for tea you test it by pouring it over the “pee pee boy” and if the boy pees, yes, water comes out just where it’s supposed to, then you know your water is ready for tea. Told ya’, really cool, huh?
Tori has written more about her time in Beijing on her blog. Check it out. We are really excited to go meet her there this coming Saturday and I’m sure we’ll have more great stories to tell.
